Zinc Replacements
Proper care and maintenance of your boat MUST include Zinc Replacement. Why? The quick and easy answer is that sacrificial anodes (zincs) protect the submerged metal from galvanic corrosion.
To prevent galvanic corrosion the electrical circuit between the exposed metals needs to be broken, thus, sacrificial anodes (zincs) are used. Sacrificial anodes can prolong the life of your boat's hull, engine, rudder, propeller shaft, and other metal components by protecting them from damage as a result of galvanic corrosion.
Zincs needs to be inspected periodically and replaced. There is no prescribed time frame for how long a zinc will last. The life of zincs depends on:
-
How often you run your boat
-
How many zincs you have
-
How your boat is wired
-
How other boats in the marina are wired
The cost of zincs is relatively inexpensive in the grand scheme of boat maintenance but they certainly can prevent costly damage! Schedule an appointment today so we can inspect your current zincs and determine where they are in their life cycle.
